A team of researchers in the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) have received a $300,000 grant from the Humana Foundation to advance a groundbreaking study on youth suicide prevention in schools.
The study will be led by Anna Mueller, the Luther Dana Waterman Professor of Sociology, with collaborators Natasha Chaku, Assistant Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Hank Green, Associate Professor of Applied Health Science in the School of Public Health-Bloomington, and Jonathan Singer of Loyola University Chicago.
Their research aims to improve emotional connectedness between school staff and students as a core strategy for reducing youth suicide. Read more about the project on the Irsay Institute website.
Through the Research & Evaluation Design Support (REDS) for Grant Proposals program, the Center for Survey Research (CSR) provided consultation on the viability of different sampling designs for school-based studies, such as systematic clustered samples versus a broader, stratified approach, in support of Dr. Mueller’s proposal. Moving forward, CSR will administer the school staff surveys, as well as provide continuing survey methodological consultation on sampling, questionnaire, implementation, and incentive designs.
The Research & Evaluation Design Support (REDS) for Grant Proposals program provides specialized consultation related to research design, evaluation plans, survey methodology, and statistics. Click here to learn more about the REDS program.
